Plank Calculator — Calculate Planks Needed
Work out how many planks you need to cover a given area, with waste allowance and cost estimate.
Covering width of each plank
0 for tongue and groove; 5-8mm for decking
How We Calculate This
This calculator determines the number of planks needed to cover a rectangular area.
The calculation
Planks across = Area width ÷ (Plank width + Gap)
Planks along = Area length ÷ Plank length
Total planks = Planks across × Planks along
Each value is rounded up since partial planks require a full plank to cut from.
Waste allowance
The 10% waste factor covers end cuts, defective boards, and fitting around obstacles.
