How We Calculate This

This calculator works out how many sheet goods you need based on your project area.

The calculation

Sheets needed = Project area ÷ Sheet area

The result is rounded up to whole sheets, since you cannot buy partial sheets.

Waste allowance

When enabled, the calculator adds 10% to the area before dividing by sheet area. This accounts for saw kerf (typically 3mm per cut), offcuts that cannot be reused, and trimming damaged edges.

Standard UK sheet sizes

  • 2440 × 1220mm (8′ × 4′) = 2.977 m²
  • 3050 × 1525mm (10′ × 5′) = 4.651 m²
  • 2440 × 610mm (half sheet) = 1.488 m²
